origin of the rivalry.

Since the end of the Ateneo-La Salle championship last UAAP Season 71, I started to wonder what is REALLY the origin of their rivalry. It was just then that i first witnessed the battle of the Eagles and the Archers. And it was only until now that I decided to research about it. [yeah. i did a little research.] and I was shocked to see that it actually has a Wikipedia page. lol. I also searched a lot of forums. [no spamming. xD]

Based on what I read, it started out in the Juniors Division. It was at NCAA then and it was La Salle Green Hills vs. Ateneo de Manila High School. But the rivalry between LSGH and ADMHS disappeared when Ateneo joined the UAAP. Instantly, ADMHS became rivals with the De La Salle-Santiago Zobel School.

It was believed that the rivalry between the ADMU and DLSU started at the NCAA championships in 1939. It was a series of games wherein Ateneo lost against La Salle. Then the next day, La Sallians threw fried chicken on the streets and on the gate of the Ateneo campus (which was then in Manila)

That's all I've read. haha. It made sense to me anyway. Just plain sports rivalry.

P.S. people say that watching an Ateneo-La Salle game is epic cause one side of the arena is green and one side is blue and everyone is standing up cheering for their school, alma matter or just simply a fan. Even politicians, celebrities and the richest Filipinos take their break just to witness a sensational game by the Eagles and the Archers!

-tricia.
